Future NIU student Miss Illinois, Miss Iowa will appear Jan. 27 at ‘Castle Challenge’ game

Two contestants from the 2012 Miss America pageant will visit the NIU campus Friday, Jan. 27, to attend the Castle Challenge.

Miss Illinois Hannah Smith, who is a future NIU student, and Miss Iowa Jessica Pray will join DeKalb Barb andSycamore Spartanfans at the NIU Convocation Center.

Photograph opportunities will be available from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Both Miss America contestants also will put their pageant talents on display and sing the National Anthem prior to the boys’ varsity basketball game. In addition, they will lead the Parade of Athletes and help present the booster presidents with the money raised from this year’s Castle Challenge.

The challenge was created to increase attendance at athletic events, raise funds and enhance awareness of the Sycamore Sports Booster Club and the DeKalb Barb Boosters organizations.

Local businesses, organizations, and individuals are “Challenged” to help raise funds that will help support athletic programs grades 6 through 12 with net proceeds distributed equally to both booster organizations.

Automobile crashes continue to be the leading cause of death and injury to teenage drivers, and teens are nearly ten times more likely to be in an accident within their first year of driving. State Farm Insurance® and the Miss Illinois Scholarship Association are teaming up to combat these statistics and educate teens on safe driving habits.
