Beginning at the age of five, I joined the Miss Illinois Princess Mentoring Program and began my journey in the Miss Illinois Organization. Since that time, I have participated in the state competition for 11 years. I received 4th runner-up and 1st runner-up in the Miss Illinois Outstanding Pre-Teen competition, and most recently placed within the top 10, received 4th runner-up and 1st runner-up for two years in the Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen competition. I essentially grew up in this organization, and I treasure the many people whose advice and guidance have shaped me into the woman I am today. I have learned so much about myself through my time in this organization, and can confidently say I wouldn’t trade my experiences for anything.
I give the backstory of my many years of involvement to illustrate why I have so much passion for the Miss Illinois and Miss America Organizations, and in turn the job of Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen. However, I can’t go on without acknowledging the work done by Imani Muse as Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen 2019. When competing in my first Miss Illinois competition, the judges asked me who my biggest competition was. My answer was “Imani Muse!” Even at 10 years old, I knew Imani would grow to be the poised and accomplished young woman she is today, and would inspire young people across Illinois as she did during her year of service. Congratulations and thank you, Imani!
With that being said, I simply cannot contain my excitement at becoming Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen 2020! Although my time as Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen will be different due to COVID-19, I am looking forward to representing Illinois and sharing my social impact initiative, “My GIRL Agenda” with girls all over the state. My initiative holds a special place in my heart. I have been a Girl Scout for 10 years and have earned the Bronze, Silver and Gold (Trifecta) Awards. Because of these experiences, I have gained so many skills that serve me in my daily life, and I can’t wait to share that same knowledge with the girls of Illinois. Every single girl can become a Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker and Leader, and I want to help them achieve it!
I am currently a senior at Marion High School, where I am a Lettergirl and Co-Captain on the MHS Varsity Dance Team, Editor of “The Student” Newspaper, Vice-President of Future Business Leaders of America, and Section Leader and Communications Director for the MHS Chamber Choir. I am also a member of the National Honors Society, Math Honors Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. I work as an On Air Reporter for The Marion Star Live in my free time to use my writing and communication skills to serve my community. This job is preparing me for my future since I plan to major in journalism in college!
I plan to use all of the skills I have learned from my years in the Miss Illinois Organization and through my volunteer work to serve the state of Illinois. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity, and look forward to what the future holds for me as Miss Illinois Outstanding Teen 2020!
